BLACK STAR PHOTOGRAPHER GUEST SPEAKER AT RYERSON'S KODAK LECTURE SERIES
Renowned U.S. photographer Dennis Brack, the most heavily represented photojournalistin Ryerson's Black Star Historical Black & White Photography Collection and President of the White House News Photographers Association, came to the University recently to speak at the 33rd annual Kodak Lecture Series.

The Collection is also featured in the 50 Years of American Photojournalism: 1939-1989 exhibition at the Art Gallery of the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. until August. The images are drawn from three main categories in the Collection: the civil-rights movement, war and conflict, and personalities.

RYERSON'S BLACK STAR HISTORICAL BLACK & WHITE PHOTGRAPHY COLLECTION AT CONTACT TORONTO PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL 2008
Before the advent of television and online news, images of current events were captured and conveyed through photographs. The visual record of many of these social, political and cultural events of the 20th century is contained in Ryerson's Black Star Historical Black & White Photography Collection.

Recently, President Sheldon Levy unveiled the design concept for the new Ryerson Photography Gallery and Research Centre. The stars come out for the latest highlights from Ryerson’s Black Star Historical Black & White Photography Collection. Andy Warhol, Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando, Bobby Kennedy, Jacques Cousteau and Ernest Hemingway are just some of the more than 70 famous faces that will be on display as part of The Celebrity Persona: The Black Star Collection at Ryerson exhibition, Ryerson’s submission in the 2007 CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM BLACK STAR HISTORICAL COLLECTION DEBUTS IN CONTACT TORONTO PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL
TORONTO, Canada — A wounded English aviator taken prisoner by German soldiers during WWI, Vietnam War protesters in Washington D.C., a young Cassius Clay training underwater in 1961.These scenes are among some 100 gripping images from The Black Star Collection at Ryerson University: Highlights, which are being presented at the Allen Lambert Galleria, BCE Place, May 7 to 27. The display is part of the 2006 CONTACT Toronto P photography F festival.

TORONTO, Canada —Highlights from Ryerson's Black Star Historical Black & White Photography Collection will be featured in a digital exhibition running from November 18th until December 2nd, 2005.

TORONTO, Canada —Ryerson University has acquired one of the world’s great collections of photography. A remarkable visual legacy of the 20th century, Ryerson’s Black Star Historical Black & White Photography Collection is an internationally-renowned collection of almost 300,000 black and white photographs with extraordinary artistic and documentary value.

The Ryerson Library has recently acquired two significant collections that will greatly enhance its support of programs in the School of Image Arts, particularly the master’s program in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management. Kodak Canada has recently donated its entire historic company archives to Ryerson University. The Library will also soon acquire an extensive collection of materials on the history of photography from the private collection of Nicholas M. & Marilyn A. Graver of Rochester, N.Y.

"It is my great pleasure to announce today that Ryerson University has acquired the Black Star Historical Black & White Photography Collection. It’s an extraordinary Collection of almost 300,000 photographs from the Black Star Agency in New York City.
