Katy McCormick is associate professor in the School of Image Arts and co-director of the Documentary Media Research Centre. She was awarded the 2021 YSGS Outstanding Contribution to Graduate Education Award in the Faculty of Communication and Design. Her photographic work examines commemorative sites, revealing narratives and social histories embedded in landscapes. Her current project, Rooted among the Ashes: The A-Bombed Trees of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, offering intimate portraits of trees that survived atomic attacks in Japan, will be shown at the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum in Independence, Missouri, in 2022. This work is also included in Through Post-Atomic Eyes, edited by Claudette Lauzon and John O’Brian (MQUP, 2020).
