Dr. Bal has worked intensively in production including multimedia educational software development, corporate digital imaging, 3-D animation and experimental film and video. She is an associate researcher at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris. Her current research examines the impact of social and experiential media on art practices and institutional learning. More specifically she is trying to understand how virtual informal communities within social media generate their own forms of knowledge and culture, whether these informal productions of knowledge and culture alter notions of art and education and whether they influence the evolution of cultural institutions such as educational, media and arts institutions.
