Brainstorming weekend sessions to prepare Quebec-Ontario Symposium

SYMPOSIUM ON NEW IMAGES / NEW FILM / NEW MEDIA

In October of 2001, Ryerson University hosted a brainstorming weekend with the help of sponsorship from the Bureau of Quebec in Toronto. Many people took time from busy schedules, even traveled considerable distances at personal expense, to attend the meetings on the weekend of October 19th – 20th.
The goal was to organize an arts symposium in 2003 which would create a solid exchange platform between artists, critical writers, theorists and arts institutions With a common foundation in fine arts across Quebec and Ontario, thirty-six participants from both provinces brought their energy and ideas together to prepare a base for the symposium.

The first conference/exchange planned for February 2003 would be hosted by Ryerson in cooperation with other arts organizations in Toronto. It would feature new work in film, installation, new media, photography and collaborative projects by Quebec and Ontario artists, and would also be supported by an exchange of ideas and a series of open meetings, screenings, performances and discussions.
