In August of 1998, Robert Del Tredici accompanied a delegation of Dene that travelled to Hiroshima to express their regret that uranium mined in Port Radium at Great Bear Lake had been used to develop the atom bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Cindy Kenny Gilday and Robert Del Tredici wrote to the Nikkei Voice in Toronto in 1997 and 1998 describing how the Dene had been affected by the Eldorado uranium mining at Great Bear Lake.
